LG LANCET: FIRST VERIZON WINDOWS PHONE WITH HD.
LG surprised a lot of people this week with its unveiling of the Lancet handset: a Windows Phone device with a $120 retail price.
Known for its work with the Android platform, LG has long shied away from Microsoft's OS.
The South Korean electronics giant, however, kept its promise to return to the mobile service, on Thursday announcing its 4.5-inch smartphone with Windows 8.1. Boasting an LCD display and 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor, the device is powered by a 2100mAh battery for all-day usage, and comes with 8GB internal storage with a microSD slot for up to 128 GB additional space.
Mobile Everything customers also receive 25 GB cloud storage at no extra cost. Plus, users can customize their home screen by "pinning" favourite apps, as well as access personal assistant Cortana via voice commands. An 8-megapixel rear camera also comes with various functions, including night mode for low-light settings.
Available online now from Verizon, the LG Lancet launches in stores on May 21 with Advanced Calling 1.0, making it the first Windows smartphone with HD voice calling on the carrier's network.
So, next time you ring another Advanced Calling-enabled Verizon smartphone (see list online), both participants will enjoy natural-sounding high-definition conversations.
